Note3 4.4.2 firmware vs CF-Auto-Root

I have just updated the CF-Auto-Root for the Note3, and it now works with the 4.4.2 firmware for the Note3.

I had to rebase on the new 4.4.2 recovery to get it working. I also had to update my Note3 to the latest bootloaders to even get it to boot at all (regardless of root).

As such, I can't say for sure if the new CF-Auto-Root still works on 4.3 firmwares, so if you're still on a 4.3 firmware, please be so kind as to test and report back.

For the same reason, I'm also not sure if it'll work if you have not updated your bootloaders. I'm sure some of you have flashed this latest firmware without the new bootloaders, so let me know if it works for that case as well.

Yes new cf auto root works on s4 using stock 4.3 it even auto updated to mk2 after rooted

Is triangle away working for this bootloader? Thank you.

Célia Michenaud commented on 2014-01-13 at 11:48:

+Martial Bessiere If the new bootloader is needed to boot in 4.4.2 (like +Chainfire says) you probably won't be able to use Mobile Odin at all to upgrade since it doesn't flash bootloaders. Plus, the new bootloader will be patched (since they all are, starting from MJ3) and you won't be able to use Root de la Vega anymore.

Unless people find a new security flaw (which no-one has found in the MJ3+ bootloaders), it looks like we're screwed.

Farhan Arain commented on 2014-01-13 at 11:54:

Sorry for the question but what's this about bootloader? I just flashed my Note 3 with 4.3 ML2 firmware, and rooted it using Chainfire's CF Root. Now if I flash 4.4.2 over it, it won't boot? I thought stock ROMs always came with their own bootloaders.. no?

3) while holding the buttons ask some one to put the battery in.

when u do that it goes into download mode. then cancel it . ur phone should boot. and mine knox warranty void became 0x1

Thanks for your work.  Are you going to work on updating the CF-Auto-Root for the AT&T S3 w/ the 4.3 update.  When I did it from the xda forums, everything worked until Knox blocked it.  There has been another Samsung security update.  My phone is recognized as rooted by flixster and some other apps, but SU and TriangleAway can't get root access because Knox blocks access.  Thanks!

Shival Wolf commented on 2014-01-21 at 02:00:

Using on the 4.3 firmware cf-root apparently succeeds but then gets stuck on recovery booting.

it also sets the knox flag.

However there is no root on the device after this failure.

I am going to update to 4.4.2 I wanted it anyway.

I did re-mention how to get out of it 4 posts above after reading it in a previous post in the thread so there is advice on how to get the phone working again, albeit rootless and with no recovery.

I am sure the almighty Chainfire will resolve this soon but had been hoping there was a link to the pre 4.4 version that those of us still on 4.3 could use in the mean time as there are a couple of posts about using the older version but I have had no luck finding it yet.

You guys with the boot loops are you sure you are using the latest version of autoroot?  I flashed the Polish 4.4.2 and had a boot loop when using the old autoroot that I used on 4.3.  Downloaded the new version and root worked first time.

Alfredo Loza commented on 2014-03-09 at 12:00:

Would you mind posting the correct link of Cf auto root?, I'm pretty sure I'm using the right one but just to make sure and I have the SM-900T 4.4.2 kit Kat. Thanks.

Hello people. Since the update to Kitkat 4.4.2 my Note 3 (SM-N9005) no longer writes to the external SD Card and so i figured out i need to root my phone in order to regain Write permissions on the external SD card.

I have uninstalled/disabled KNOX from my phone as i don't use it and don't need it. My question is this:

If i root my phone, will KNOX still affect my root by throwing error messages? i am not bothered about the KNOX warranty it's just that i would really like to be able to write back to my SD card!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Nick Crowe commented on 2014-03-13 at 19:48:

Check xda forums this is a common issue, basically you need to edit your permissions xml file as the write to extsd option has been removed

Nubin Stanley commented on 2014-03-13 at 20:17:

This might sound silly.... but still here it goes....

I just got ma new Note 3 (SM-N900 - Exynos version) (bought a new one after i got refunded for my previous one after a long battle with Samsung).... Wanna root.... But couldn't exactly find answers to all my questions....

1) I am on 4.4.2. N900XXUDNB2. Can I just use CF-Auto-Root to get root access ?

2) This alone will not trip the knox counter I suppose ?

3) Can I flash CWM/TWRP ? Without tripping Knox ?

4) Does the Exynos version even have an eFuse like the Snapdragon version ?

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-03-13 at 20:40:

1- First you can't use CF-Auto-Root it won't work because it's not updated to your device it's updated only to n9005

2- No it will trip it

3- No you can't

4- I think yes

If you want to root without tripping your knox here is the solution provided by wwjoshdew at‏ https://plus.google.com/104139618242743011218/posts/EhCmvyxMfyi

unfortunately I  rooted my n900s with traditional medthod which trips my know If you want to know the traditional method just tell me :D

Nubin Stanley commented on 2014-03-13 at 20:44:

Hehe.... Thanks for the directions though ;)

Even with the method u jst mentioned I can just get root I suppose ? If I need a custom recovery/rom Knox has to be tripped ?

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-03-13 at 20:50:

yes it will be tripped if you use custom recovery or rom , I think with wwjoshdew method you can root your device without tripping knox

Nubin Stanley commented on 2014-03-13 at 20:51:

Lemme check it out... and one more question. ... does it matter that am on 4.4.2.... it shud still wrk right..?

Anyhow, thanks... :)

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-03-13 at 21:00:

yes, it should still work because it works like the traditional method(which works on my n900s 4.4.2 KitKat) but the difference that it root the device without CWM recovery so I think it should still work

you are welcome any time :)

Gali Janach commented on 2014-03-13 at 22:12:

Just a quick update:

Rooted successfully and with KNOX disabled via SuperSU everything is working beautifully.

I do have 2 more questions:

  1. Would Triangle Away app change "Custom" to "Official"? it shows counter as 0 without even resetting it! Is this normal?

  2. Interested in purchasing the "Regionlock away" app but not sure if it works on the latest firmware. Can you please comment if you managed to get it to work with the latest XXUENB7 build number on the SM-N9005? My Note 3 is factory sim unlocked BTW so i wouldn't need it for experimenting with sim unlocking my device.

Many thanks to all

+Mia Sanders you must have the correct CWM for your android version cuz it differ from version to version (CWM for 4.3 is different from CWM for 4.4.2 KitKat) get the correct CWM and then flash it again, if you still stuck in bootlooping then you must flash your official stockrom using Odin and then flash the correct CWM

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-04-18 at 22:46:

+Stu Weiss you just need to flash a CWM using odin for your device, cwm files for your device is in this url ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454079 ) iust download and flash don't use recovery apps I think it's better not to use them and take care if you have 4.3 download cwm files for it and so on if you have 4.4.2

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-04-19 at 17:43:

+Danny Marquez I think cannot , but you may be a lucky man like Chris Darrow who tried successfully it on N900T but I don't recommend you to do this you my brick your device

you must download twrp files for your device version and your 4.4.2 android version (the files for 4.3 is differ than files for 4.4.2 take care)

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-04-19 at 18:54:

+Danny Marquez  hhhhhhhhhhhh lol, after you install twrp or cwm download this superuser app (http://download.chainfire.eu/381/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.91.zip) into your phone sdcard and boot into recovery and select install zip from sdcard and install it, then you have succesfully root your device

mahmoud sherif commented on 2014-04-19 at 19:58:

So, I used CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar.md5 and it worked perfectly. ROM Manager and Root Checker confirmed it.

Great job, Chainfire. Thank you for your services!

Just confirmed last night he has a working downgrade but reboots random and upon reboot the phone resets and wipes itself. We just have to be patient.

This is like the iPhone jailbreak some say we won't ever get one for whatever new firmware was released then what happens the jailbreak is released lol the root will come sit back and enjoy your expensive phone its still the best thing smoking lol"  So there is hope.

Rico Porter commented on 2014-05-20 at 00:31:

Theirs over $15000 on the line to the first one to make it happen believe me it's being worked on just not publicly open for discussion. The downgrade is necessary due to the locked bootloader pretty much same process with 4.3 but much harder so it seems at the moment. Within a couple weeks we will have root on 4.4.2 or have the ability to downgrade to rock a custom 4.4.2

Someone please tag me if they find a root w/Knox counter or no counter for Verizon sm-n900v note 3 with 4.4.2. I need root!

Sonny Cantu commented on 2014-05-26 at 01:17:

Unfortunately I bricked my AT&T Note 3 running rooted Android 4.3.  Took it to Best Buy and a Samsung rep reflashed it with Android 4.4.2.  DAMN IT!  So now I am eagerly waiting on an update.  Best of luck to Chainfire.

I just saw this I have note 3 n900a 4.4.2 build kot49h is the bounty still out for the root method?

Ricky sanchez commented on 2014-06-01 at 14:30:

Damn well I got one year looks like I'm switching to t mobile then after this

Roger White commented on 2014-06-01 at 17:56:

can I use this on my SM-N900A? It's running 4.4.2 and I hate it. I can't find a tool anywhere to root it so I can remove the ton of bloatware from my phone.

edit

My apologies, I posted before I read other comments. Apparently I'm stuck with 4.4.2 even though I'm not on AT&T service, simply because I have an AT&T handset.

Nevertheless, I still have to find a way to remove the bloatware. Because, the update, which I didn't authorize, installed several more apps that I never use, yet want ever more of my personal information and permissions.

Bob Hicken commented on 2014-06-03 at 05:11:

It seems to me that root is based on tricking the bootloader to load a file that then enables one to have control over permissions of all files including system files. Can't some Chinese company just create a new bootloader er and a way to push it onto the phone? The phone is no different than a computer. I would gladly void the warranty on my phone just to have root again.

Anthony Nesperos commented on 2014-06-03 at 12:54:

I don't have a problem with AT&T until one day they F#$% my bill and ever since I've been disliking them lately. I really like their signal reception in my area and also the fact I have unlimited DATA from being grandfathered from back in the day. I'm also an Android fan I love how I can manipulate my Phone to my liking for whatever the hell I want. but this new thing that AT&T is playing Communist is really Pissing me Off!! Why are they pulling an Apple on loyal consumer? there's no need for this BS!

PS. I need honest advice please. Should I change carrier or buy unlock phones from now on? ( considering AT&T signal reception is really good and reliable in my area)

Brad Burbank commented on 2014-06-04 at 21:38:

So what's the latest on the 4.4.2 root? I have the Verizon LTE SM-900V...

Roger White commented on 2014-06-05 at 02:12:

Anthony, I'd say If you have a good thing (being grandfathered in) don't lose it. Just get unlocked phones from now on. That's what I'm doing too.

Branden Granger commented on 2014-06-05 at 18:29:

I am also hoping the N900V will be supported soon

Brad Burbank commented on 2014-06-05 at 18:32:

As far as I know, there hasn't really been any news on a root exploit.

Base Number - L720VPUFNAE

build number - KOY49H.L720VPUFNAE

Galaxy S4 SPH-L720 {now i see you have}

CF-Auto-Root_jflite-jfltexx-gti9505

Does that make a difference? I guess what i am trying to say is should mine be saying {CF-Auto-Root_jflite-jfltexx-SPH-L720} or something like it.

Also my phone was rooted, i had a problem and had to uninstall root to get the phone working again. Now that things are back, can i or this phone be re-rooted? Reason why i am asking is now it has that 4.4.2 software update, that loaded by itself when i first turned it on and now everytime i try to root super user says not rooted.

Anthony Nesperos commented on 2014-06-09 at 23:57:

I'm buying unlock phones from now on especially there's lots of affordable to choice from like OnePlus one, nexus, moto X. Heck, even company like Blu is producing great smartphone lately. or completely switch to t mobile.

This is my 1st time trying to root a phone.

I am having an impossible time rooting my galaxy note 3

SM-N9006 (Chinese)

Android ver: 4.4.2

baseband: N9006ZCUENE1

I tried several methods, mainly ODIN with " n9006-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.7(0922)-fix-adb"

the problem is that every time I have to reboot the phone in recovery mode, I get:

RECOVERY BOOTING (in blue),

RECOVERY IS NOT SEANDROID ENFORCING (red)

Set Warranty Bit: recovery (yellow)

and it bootloops till that. ( root de la vega, kingo, ODIN, etc... same problem, grrrr!)

I am guessing that's because I am using the wrong firmware to flash my phone

I just want to install Google play store ( Chinese note 3 blocked it, some bull**!!!!) and customize my phone

any help please?
