live dmesg is the one and only boot animation replacement that shows the actual dmesg log (kernel debug messages). It looks a bit similar to a BIOS boot. Handy for developers too! Unlike other similar apps, the information you see on screen is real and live, not a pre-recorded fake.
The price is aimed at being "one beer" (at the bar, not the supermarket). Google does the price conversion, but if it comes out way above that in your area, let me know.
!! requires a fully rooted device !!
The application uses some (root) trickery to get itself installed and running, and it may not be compatible with all devices. It also requires writable /system in many cases. It has been tested and found working on the following devices (though it may not work on all firmwares and kernels for a specific device):
- Samsung Galaxy S
- Samsung Galaxy Tab 7"
- Samsung Vibrant
- Samsung Captivate
- HTC/Google Nexus One
- HTC Thunderbolt
- HTC Desire
- HTC Desire Z (T-Mo G2)
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC Incredible
- HTC HD2
- HTC Evo
- HTC Hero
- Motorola Droid
- Motorola Droid X
- Motorola Cliq
- Motorola Milestone
- Motorola Atrix 4G
- MyTouch 4G
It is likely to work on many more devices, if you use a non-listed device and it works, please leave a comment!
This program now also has a cousin: live logcat. They fully integrate, you can view dmesg, logcat, or both (split screen) during boot. Tapping on the screen or pressing a button will switch between them.

I really like the idea of live dmesg!
However, when I tried it on my HD2 with [APR 02] AmeriCanAndroid AOSP HD2 GB233 CM7, unfortunatelly it didn't work.
While booting Android, it just shows black screen with green HTC title. It did remove the original AmeriCanAndroid, but it didn't show the intended dmesg messages. I requested a refund, but if you'll update the app, I'll consider buying it again.
Regards,
Alex
It did remove the original AmeriCanAndroid bootscreen...
@alex Sorry but I have no idea what the issue is. The HD2 firmwares vary wildly, it worked on the ones I tested it on ...
Matt
DesireHD.
However...
will it blend?
Xeli
Updated to v1.5, adds rotation support, more firmwares, full integration with "live logcat", even split screen.
@ Xeli
Yes, yes it will. It will blend with "live logcat" ;)

Could it be the case your system partition is full ? In the newer versions, use the "bug report" button !
Would it be possible to add a pause feature? I have a single instance coming up in red, but it scrolls too fast to read. Or perhaps there is a file the logcat is dumped too?
The boot sequence is still showing the Android guy and then I see the Cyanogen logo. No logcat during boot.
However, I could not find it in my applications drawer, on GB .602 on the DroidX. So I uninstalled it via the Marketplace, rather than using your built-in uninstall function (because that screen was not available).
It skipped some steps, because the boot animation is now a black screen, after the red 'M' logo.
What do I need to do to rebuild the chain that runs the DroidX boot animation? The old 5.97M bootanimation.zip file is still there, in /system/media. What does your install program change in calling it?
Thank you.
Could you please, make ZIP IMAGE of live dmesg/logcat for ROM MANEGER. With flashable image users with S-OFF can use you program.
Regards
I really like the app. It works flawless on my ZTE Blade, but it's upside down, and I can't buy the full version, because it's not available in Hungary :(
Exactly what I was looking for! I can say that it works for Bionic but during the scrolling of the log there is an entry that repeats at least 100 times that is not there during default bootanimation.
omaplfb (FrameBufferEvents 354): Framebuffer event (1) happened
omaplfb (FrameBufferEvents 356): Ignoring
Over and over. I hope this could help you with the Bionic.
Thank you. :)
I was using the free version and I didn't notice the copyright text at the top or bottom. Maybe a screen size issue? Here's a debug.

I had to clear the flash from via factory mode to beeing able to use the phone again.
What could it be?
