A lot has been said about the SuperSU icon. Many were unhappy with the original icon, saying it lacked quality. After changing it to Super Andy, many complained the icon was not serious enough. Just as many people wrote me to say they loved Super Andy, as there were who hated it.

So, I've decided to have a little competition. Everybody may submit their icon propositions for a while, after which we will publicly have a vote for which icon will become the new SuperSU icon.



Rules

- I reserve the right to veto any icon I really don't like, or doesn't fit with the rest of the application
- Participating means you give up any copyrights and royalties and such for the icons you submit
- The icon should be clearly identifyable at 48x48 pixels
- Please stick to the current Android colors. Blue definitely has my personal preference, as it matches the program accents. Resize and place your icon inside the app's screenshots to make sure it fits color-wise
- You might also want to look at Android iconography (and the rest of the Android design section, really)



Submitting

You must create a ZIP file containing the icon in the following sizes in PNG(+alpha) format:
- 18x18
- 24x24
- 36x36
- 48x48
- 72x72
- 96x96
- 512x512

You may email that ZIP file to icon @ chainfire.eu

Do not include your PSD file - send that one when you actually win ;)

In essence, so do I - but people are right, if we go back to the # sign, I would definitely like somebody who can properly use Photoshop to remake it a bit better quality !

I really prefer the # sign, maybe just better done. I actually was about to research alternate superuser apps for Jelly Bean when I thought that maybe you might have a way to post feedback just because the Super Andy icon is so awful in every way. Obviously I'll hold off replacing the app in hopes that something classy prevails but please- this is in so many custom ROMs, can we not make it look cartoonish?

IF you want it cartoonish, get somebody to draw and submit it :) I personally couldn't draw a stickfigure to save my life.

so, don't get me wrong but if you don't want the psd file, why would you want a file in 7 different resolutions in the first place and then asking for the psd from the winning person? not sure about this...

OK, I'm not a designer but: the logo should be this # sign made by chains on fire.

Not wanting the PSD file immediately is mostly just so my mailbox doesn't get clogged. On the other hand, all those resolution will make sure I can immediately implement the icon when a winner is selected.

I like your idea - but again, we need somebody to make it :)

I have to say not a fan of super andy at all, I love your mobile odin icon and think something along the same lines as that except with a # instead of flash and maybe even stick a cape on him, wife is out of the house tomorrow evening and if the kids stay asleep I will give this one a bash, do you have a 512x512 of mobile odin icon as a starting point?

watch out chainfire before you get sued by adobe(like apple always does) for using the same logo design as them. @MuhammadD it is a really nice icon.

Note that any icon not submitted to my email address mentioned will *not* be able to take part.

The reason I have not posted the new submissions yet is because I'm building a special page for them. I've had some 50 submissions now, it's too much work to put them all on here manually. They are coming in the next few days though !

How long is the competition open for entries? I really hope the chosen icon fits with the overall android theme. A lot of the entires don't look like they attempted to follow the android design guidelines at all. What was the problem with the original # logo? It was fine!

Looks like A LOT of people have NO idea how to design icons. Icons should be as simple as possible and not put twenty different elements into one small area. I would NEVER use any of these. The app will look amateurish.

Do the right thing and throw all of these away and use a pro.

The icon page has been updated again. As icon submissions have slowed down significantly over the weekend, I'm probably going to close submissions by then end of the week or so. Then I have to think about voting. Not sure if I'll do a pruning round before or after the first voting round ...

In the meantime, submissions are still welcome. Please do look at the Android guidelines for icons, because a lot of the currrently submitted icons will never make it into SuperSU do to being too complex for small sizes.

I did just update the page this morning. In a few days (hopefully) I'll be able to go through all the icons, add my own comments, build a voting page, etc. That's going to be quite a bit of work, so I have to be able to squeeze it in between my other activities.

144 submissions is a lot of ways to split the vote... Chainfire, maybe you should narrow it down to the top 20 or 30 contenders in your opinion? Basically make it so you'll be pleased no matter who wins at that point. :)

me too, but I think icon should be recognizable and unique. And that is challenge, simple yet recognizable. There's nothing oryginal in #. Super Andy is, but not simple and aesthetically satisfying enough. In short, tell the story in simpliest possible way, and keep it unique & catchy
